I thought I should give everyone a little update since our blogging has been missing in action the past couple of months. We have been busy, busy, busy to say the least. The three of us are looking very forward to a nice and much needed break this holiday season. So much has happened; I don't know where to begin! So, a list seems appropriate.(Oh, where would I be without my list making...?) Bear with me; I’m going to type as things come to mind.
1) Jett took his first trip to Ohio to see the Hill family. It was freeeeezing! We drove through the night on the way there and had a flat tire on the way home, but it was well worth it! It was so nice to spend some time with everyone.
2) We just moved four doors down into a larger townhouse. And what a disorganized move it was…I thought it would be easier since it was such a short distance… wrong! Things can get a little out of hand when nothing is put in boxes with nice, organized labels. Luckily, we had A LOT of assistance. Grandmama & Granddaddy Janowski spent hours painting, fixing, moving, cleaning. I am convinced we would still be in the old place if it wasn’t for them. Mom & Matt also helped out a good deal. Matthew helped Austin with many of the big (and small) items, & Mom helped move the kitchen items (which she has always done for me). Christopher & Austen also put their strength to use. And they came over yesterday & helped entertain Jett, so mom & I could get a few more things put away. Austin & I are planning on staying here at least until I graduate & get a job – at least a couple of years.
3) Jett is all over the place. He does not like to stay still. He is either crawling, standing, or drumming on inanimate objects.
4) The doctor discovered Jett had an ear infection at his last well visit. This agitated me a little since I had taken him a couple weeks previously when I suspected one. But the doctor insured me he did not have one (I guess I should give her the benefit of the doubt). It was a little ironic. The night before he was diagnosed with otitis media ( the medical term for an ear infection) I was up finishing a research paper on the effects chronic otitis media has on speech and language development. Jett seems to be feeling much better now though.
5) Jett has four teeth - two top and two bottom. Oh, how we will miss the gum smiles. But his little teeth are just as cute.
6) Jetters is constantly talking (or babbling as we speech pathologists refer to it). You can most often find him saying “dadadadada,” “babababbaba,” or “nanananana.” I have noticed lately that when he says, “nananana” it is usually in objection to something…his version of “no” maybe? He also says “yah” a good deal. I love it when he talks. Adorable.
7) Jett waved for the first time on Sunday. We have been working on this the past couple weeks so it was exciting when he waved to a few strangers after church.
8) Speaking of church, Jett visited Victory for the first time. For those of you who don’t know, Victory is a very old Methodist church that meets on the first Sunday of every month. We went a few times when I was pregnant, but we hadn’t been since Jett was born. My brother, Austen, read part of the Christmas story (I think he’s going to be quite the public speaker). Austin & I are in the process of finding a church that we want to belong to. I grew up in the Methodist church that is less than a mile from where we live, but we are going to visit a few more churches in the area before we make a commitment.
9) We visited Savannah in November, & we had a great time! It was nice to explore the city for a few days. We discovered the world’s best sushi while we were there at some hole in wall restaurant.
10) Our first Thanksgiving as a family of three was spent at Henry & Margie’s home. The food was delicious, of course. A little kickball helped us burn some of those calories. And yes, ping pong was certainly part of the festivities.
11) Austin graduates this weekend! HOORAAA YYY! I am incredibly proud of him. College isn’t easy when you have a full time job (not to mention being a full time husband & daddy). We are having a few people over on Saturday to celebrate. Let’s pray the house is in some kind of order by then….
12) As of November 30th, Jett weighed about 18 lbs and was 28.5 inches long. This puts him at 25% in weight & 50-75% in height. We expected his weight percentile to drop since he has become so mobile. I promise I am feeding him!
13) Speaking of Jett’s weight, I have a feeling he might turn out to be a picky eater (he did not get his from me). The list of what he doesn’t like is much longer than what he does. He still enjoys carrots and sweet potatoes. He also enjoys some finger foods –especially the whole grain puffs made my Gerber. These have also helped him improve his motor skills. I’m going to introduce him to organic yogurt soon.
14) I officially got through my first semester of graduate school (minus one more final on Thursday). And of course, without the help of everyone it wouldn’t have been possible (mainly Austin & Jett’s grandparents). To think that this time next year I will be done with classes & soon to be in my six month internship is incredible! Then I will be free! Wow, I can’t wait.
15) It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! Jett’s first Christmas that is! We’re going to put up a Christmas tree on Thursday. I know, a little late. But give us a break, we are still unpacking. But we are super excited. Christmas takes on a new kind of delight with a child.
*I will add more pictures over the weekend!
